Whether you’re a lifelong horse lover or just curious about Kentucky’s equestrian roots, the Horse Park is always a fun visit. You can meet retired racehorses, watch live demonstrations, and even take a horseback ride. It’s a great way to get up close with the animals that make the state of Kentucky famous.
Even if it’s not racing season, Keeneland is still worth a visit. This historic racetrack is one of the most beautiful in the country, and their behind-the-scenes tour gives you a glimpse into the world of Thoroughbred racing.
You’ll walk through the paddock, visit the grandstand, and if you go early, you might even catch the morning workouts. Plus, the Keeneland Shop has some great souvenirs if you want to take a little piece of horse country home with you!
If you’re looking for a classic Kentucky bourbon experience, Woodford Reserve is a must, and out of all of the distilleries it's the Chung family's favorite!
The tour at Woodford is top-notch. Book ASAP for your preferred time/day if you are interested, because these book and sell out fast! Reservations for tours open 90 days in advance so check in February.
If you can't get booked for a tour, the gift shop, cocktail bar, and campus are still worth a visit. Pick up an engraved bottle (Hannah's party trick) while you're on site!
Buffalo Trace is a legend in the bourbon world, and best of all, the tours are free! They’ve been making bourbon here for over 200 years, and you can feel the history as you walk through the barrel houses. If you’re lucky, you might even get a taste of something rare—but even their standard lineup is incredible.
The gift shop and campus are massive, basically a bourbon lover's Disney World! Check the website to see what the daily release will be when you're there!
This spot is the best of both worlds—beer and bourbon under one roof! Home to the famous Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale, Alltech specializes in brews aged in bourbon barrels, giving them a smooth, slightly boozy kick.
The tour includes both the brewery and distillery, so you can sample their craft beers alongside their Town Branch bourbons and whiskeys. Definitely a great stop if you want a little bit of everything!
Bourbon may get all the attention, but Lexington’s craft beer scene is seriously underrated. West Sixth Brewing is a local favorite with a great patio, Country Boy serves up bold, flavorful brews, and Mirror Twin is the spot for a good beer-and-pizza combo. If you’re into sours, Ethereal Brewing in the Distillery District is a hidden gem.
Downtown has the perfect mix of history and modern charm. Walk around and you’ll find great local shops, incredible restaurants, and plenty of bourbon bars. If you have time, grab a coffee at Third Street Stuff (across from where Hannah went to middle school!), check out the murals, and end the night with a cocktail at The Thirsty Fox or West Main Crafting Co.
